Eczema is an atopic skin condition that mostly affects children below the age of 10 though some adults seem to get affected by it through different stages of life. Eczema may vary from going mild to be chronic with severe rashes that affect any part of the body. Eczema comes and goes in erratic cycles, so no one can tell if it has been cured for good or will appear at a later time on any part of the body. Having said this, it also must be noted that it is not contagious – it cannot be transferred from one part of the body to the next because of contact neither can someone else be affected by it because they touched the rash on someone else.

There are many forms of eczema that occur however the most common one is called atopic dermatitis. This usually affects areas of the body called “flexors” or those joints that are bent – like behind the knees, elbows, the neck, etc. It can also affect those parts that come into contact with irritants like a particular type of clothing material or detergent.

Eczema can occur for a number of reasons. Atopic dermatitis is generally hereditary and affects the body along with hay fever and asthma. It is also the result most commonly from allergies or diseases affecting various organs of the body.
